For the first time in India, Big Bazaar, the hypermarket concept of Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited, will host a ‘5-Day Maha Bachat’ offer to consumers. The 22-carat fine jewellery store format, Navaras, will be a part of this club.
This consumer campaign will have 100 stores of different value formats spanning daily household needs, kitchenware, food and grocery, apparel, footwear, toys luggage, home décor, furniture, electronics and jewellery.

Indian Pharmaceutical companies’ priorities have shifted from infectious diseases to chronic lifestyle disorders. The latter is the new threat to the developed nations. Chronic lifestyle disorders include diabetes, arthritis and metabolic diseases.
WHO has estimated 15% decrease in deaths from infectious diseases in India, and an increase by 35% of deaths from chronic lifestyle disorders.
Most pharmaceutical companies are moving in this direction.

Online retail spreads its net
Future Bazaar, the online arm of the Future Group recently set up kiosks across a few towns, where customers could place orders via sales people, and receive the goods at home. The comfort of buying through this medium without having to log into the net was a big success.
This new method of offline advertising to boost online sales is the new trend that online and offline retailers will offer, to attract more customers, and encourage them to buy more.

Too much work, no leisure makes us fat
Lifestyle diseases are escalating and killing people across India. More than 30% of the adults in cities across India are overweight due to lifestyle choices.
Work related stress, lack of time for recreation etc., are adding to obesity, diabetes, heart and respiratory problems, and mental health problems.
This health issue needs to be addressed, unlike AIDS, which was ignored in India.

Yash Birla may pick up power, lifestyle firms
The Yash Birla Group is considering foraying into the power and lifestyle segments in India with acquisitions.
Currently, the group has six listed and 14 unlisted firms. They have plans to float six holding firms that would operate in auto parts, power, textile and lifestyle businesses. They are considering acquisitions in the wellness and lifestyles segments as well.
They will start producing home furnishing fabrics and branded garments to be marketed and sold through the retail chain which they will also set up.
