‘Free-from’ food market

SHOPPERS ARE sending ‘free-from’ food skyrocketing and the trend seems set to continue. When a product of a company mentions ‘free-from’, consumers believe it is free from allergen, or contains zero parts per million. Increased public awareness of food allergies and intolerance has brought about a 300 per cent growth in the ‘free from’ sector, since 2000. Free-from diets are becoming a lifestyle choice, irrespective of whether one is actually suffering from allergy or food intolerance. A number of celebrity endorsements are said to have fuelled further growth.

There has been a tremendous increase in the amount of information on product labels over the last five years. Consumers are not satisfied with only information on ingredients, nutrition and best before dates, but are demanding to know whether packaging can be recycled, where the product comes from and whether it was produced ethically. Allergen and free-from labeling, in particular, have grown significantly.

Go sporty, go chic!

There was a time when track pants, leggings and jackets were only part of the gym. But now one doesn’t need to change from sporty wear to casuals for that club-hopping session.

Sports is big in India like never before. Be it the success of sport-driven films like Chak De and Goal, the 20-20 World Cup victory, the ICL-IPL championships or the F1 circuit, it has constantly been in the news. Naturally, sports would also permeate into the fashion world.

Not surprisingly, many brands have already started cashing in on the trend-Miss Sixty and Energie both are aiming at combining style and comfort with an athletic touch. Even for the men, what was earlier called ‘gym wear’ has now become mainstream.

Designer Watches Challenging Handbags as Most Popular Luxury Fashion Accessory

Designer watches are fast becoming one of the most popular accessories in luxury fashion, threatening to usurp the number one position from designer handbags.

While diamonds and gemstones are used in both designer sunglasses and watches, in the emerging luxury markets of India, China and Russia, watches have become status symbols in and of themselves. Like handbags, the high-end watches travel easily and are subtle enough not to clash with traditional dress or religious beliefs. However, unlike handbags, they outlast fashion seasons.

'Green' Luxury Doesn't Have to Cost More

Luxury is going green. From eco-friendly five-star hotels to designer clothes made with organic fabrics, it seems we can't get enough of these higher-minded -- and often higher-priced -- goods and services.

Environmentalists are critical of the green spending craze, arguing that sustainability means living more simply and buying less. But if consumers aren't ready to stop splurging on luxury products, why not support earth-friendly practices along the way?

Brands galore, but expensive wine is not yet hot for Indians

Indian and foreign wine and liquor companies may have lined up an array of brands to woo consumers, but this has not increased the number of people sipping alcoholic drinks.

Such a trend goes against analyst predictions that progressive deregulation, rising income and supportive demographic trends will make India "one of the fastest-growing markets for alcoholic beverages in the world".
