New Funds

• Sequoia Capital India proposes to launch its second growth stage fund with a corpus of USD 500 mn.. Sequoia is probably the only fund manager focusing both on early stage and growth/ late stage investments, according to industry watchers. Source: Business Standard

• 3i Group plc announced to launch the ‘3i India Infrastructure Fund’ within the framework of the strategic partnership agreement announced by 3i and the India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (“IIFCL”) earlier. 3i is a leading private equity and venture capital company and has been investing in infrastructure businesses for the last 20 years.

The proposed Fund with target corpus of USD 1 bn will make investments in power, ports, airports and road projects in early-stage and mature infrastructure operations. 3i proposes to invest USD 250 mn in the Fund and raise the balance from third party investors. Source: Press Release

• Baring Private Equity Partners (BPEP) will raise its third India-centric fund with a corpus of USD 450 million. The fund will focus on strategic investments in healthcare, pharmaceutical, IT-enabled services, FMCG and alternative energy generation sectors in India, with 30 percent of the fund specifically targeted towards healthcare and pharmaceutical sector. • ChrysCapital has raised a new fund with corpus of USD 1.25 bn for investments in India. The fund will focus on growth capital investments and buyouts in business services, consumer goods and services, financial services, infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals sector.
