Editorial

This month we bring you a mixed bag of news and information on the retail sector, which signifies what can only be termed as growth pangs of a sector that has seen too much too soon.

Organized retail is in for some interesting times, although not all of it will be easy or smooth. A report by Mint indicates that the local kirana is often cheaper than say, a Big Bazaar for monthly provisions. Experts also predict consolidation that will mean that a significant number of malls will be shut down. Survival, they say, will only be possible if they follow a customer centric approach.

The race for growth and higher numbers is on in earnest. Year round discounts are here to stay. The question is whether they are notching up unit sales at the expense of better margins (we would love to hear your thoughts on this. Post on our blog at Chilliblogs
