Editorial
Wal-Mart’s entry into India caused a flurry in the retail sector, although most were not surprised. The Indian retail sector is still closed to FDI but international players can enter the market with a franchise model. After many unsuccessful rounds of talks to get the Government change these rules, it was expected that the world’s biggest retailer would go the JV way.
The Wal-Mart joint venture with Bharti Enterprises, which was also in talks with Britain's Tesco Plc., will soon start opening stores in India – plans include “several hundred stores” in the next 4-5 years. Bharti will own these retail outlets, albeit under the Wal-Mart franchise.
Meanwhile, the rest of the retail India is pulling all stops this Christmas. Chugging along like sincere worker ants, retailers big and small get ready for another successful festive season.

While outsourcing helps companies reduce costs, focus on core competencies and gain a competitive advantage, essential planning and management is critical for any outsourcing process to succeed. An ABCD analysis before outsourcing would help:
Alignment: Is outsourcing the right move for your business?
Business case: Have you taken all costs into consideration?
Culture: Can you bridge the cultural difference between your company and the outsourcer?
Delivery: How will you define success?
