Editorial
When prices go up, retail activity drops. Right? Not quite, it would seem. This time round, as inflation rocked the nation, retail offered up a palatable solution – discount retailing. Promotional sales are rubbing shoulders with year-round lower prices and coming up with mixed results. One thing is clear – the customer is delighted.
Retailer majors are going slow, learning from their experience and regrouping strategy. However, their march forward in terms of targeted number of stores and reach into India’s smaller towns continues unabated.
The festive season kicked off with Ganesh Chaturthi, and more action is to follow with Navrathi and Diwali round the corner. Hold on, the retail bandwagon is racing on.
