It is the hot new field which is as much in the minds of captains of industry as it is in the minds of academicians and educationists. There is a clear consensus amongst them that after the IT revolution, it is the biotech revolution that is going to spark a quantum leap in agricultural and industrial production. Biotechnology has undergone a sea change from a study that was confined to a lab, to a science which is possibly affecting us in many ways. From an earlier picture of a science laboratory with test tubes and Bunsen burners, the picture that biotech evokes now are state-of-the-art techniques and equipments which include genetic engineering, DNA fingerprinting, tissue culture and other newer techniques which are emerging everyday.
