Introduction

This is a platform for promoting original music of any genre. Any person without a huge brand name or celebrity status can have his or her work recorded professionally and sold or distributed online. Amateurs, budding artists or professionals can use the platform with no costs. The idea is to tap ‘exclusive’ works.

The music portal is ‘for promoting independent artists, musicians & bands in India’. All the music on TempoStand is Creative Commons BY-SA license. People can listen to the music online, download free, buy, remix and share the music, and always the original work has to be attributed.

Business Description

TempoStand works with local artists, makes professional recordings and tries to market the compositions. Users can listen to these compositions, which are offered as free podcasts on the website. The startup is Ahmedabad based but plans to have an all India presence soon.

As of now the focus is to tap the Indian classical and traditional folk songs. The plan is to have an online store to sell the music. Lights, the first album from Ahmedabad-based artists is currently online.

The revenue model is based on the sale of music, promotional campaigns for bands, individual musicians, musical merchandise and contextual advertisements on the website. The team plans to offer music streaming on the mobile as well.

Funding 

The venture appears to be self-financed as no details are available.

About the entrepreneurs, their background etc

This is a startup by engineering graduates of Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Ahmedabad. In the lead are Gaurav Dobhal, Naman Arora, Ujjwal Grover.

TempoStand had bagged the best student team award at the International business plan competition Eureka!2006 at IIT, Mumbai. At conceptualization stage, there were three more engineers on the team who appear to have moved on.
