Outsourcing is a business model of execution where  a company transfers the ownership of a business process or a function to another company. Examples are outsourcing of payroll function or the accounts function.

Offshoring is when certain activities in a business solution offering are done outside the country and can be done even when the function is not outsourced.

The primary reasons to outsource are that it lets an organisation focus on its core business; reduce costs; save on time, efforts, infrastructure etc;. It also lets us get access to specialised services and improve efficiency.
