India's medical facilities big hit in UK

Nearly 1.5 lakh foreigners travel to India every year for non emergency medical treatments. Patients seeking minor surgery combine their treatment with holidays at posh resorts, which are included in the price.

Medical diagnostics is another potential area for growth apart from medical tourism. Industry watchers believe it is only a matter of time before public health hospitals start sending patients to India for low cost treatments.

Indian medicare eyes foreign markets

A healthcare consultancy and a travel agency have tied up to endorse super specialty hospitals in India and promote them with NRIs in the US, UK, SA, Canada and Middle East.

The 40-odd private hospitals that have been selected from major cities of the country have world-class facilities and will be recognised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Escorts Hospital, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Max Healthcare, Shankar Netralaya, and Narayan Hrudalaya are a few of them.

Fortis Healthcare to Set Up 950-Bed Hospital in India

Fortis Healthcare Ltd plans to spend 8 billion rupees to set up a 950-bed hospital near New Delhi as demand rises for medical services. The hospital will be modeled along the lines of the U.S.- based Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic and will be operational in 2.5 years from now.

Fortis, which runs 12 hospitals in north India, aims to operate 40 hospitals with 7,000 beds by 2010 and expects to spend about $500 million on the expansion.

Hospitals prepare to get NRI, foreign clientele

200 Gujarat hospitals have registered themselves with US-based Om Healthcare Providers Network Inc (OHPN) to help get NRI and foreign clientele.

OHPN will re-launch itself with upgraded facilities on its web portal and is already eyeing medical fraternity from important metros. OHPN will act as a navigator between NRIs, foreign clientele with Indian medical fraternity on 3 important issues _ Patients' privacy, safety and hospital standards in cognizance with International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organisation (JCAHO) respectively.
