CII Health Summit focuses on Medical Tourism in India |
Medical tourism has emerged as an important focus area at the CII health summit. Cities like Chandigarh are gearing up to cash in on medical tourism. Indian hospitals are acquiring international accreditation to attract medical travelers.

Medical tourism to expand in India
Speaking at the 4th India Health Summit organised by the CII the Minister of Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni said that the ‘medical tourism industry is expected to involve an overall investment of $6.5 billion’ and that the government was working on simplifying procedures for foreign investments and address legal issues.
Also on anvil is a 1000-bed hospital near the capital to cater to visiting families.

India seeks to stamp its mark on medical tourism
The Government of India estimates that, on average, Indian hospitals offer treatment for 20% of what it would cost in the United States.
India has introduced a medical visa aimed at assisting overseas visitors to travel to the country for cut-price hospital treatment. An initial visa is available for up to a year and can be used for up to three visits during the 12-month period.

Indian hospital stay a holiday in hell no more
Nearly 175,000 foreigners travelled to India for medical treatment this year. The Confederation of Indian Industry expects the number of patients to rise to 200,000 next year.Many foreigners opt to undergo surgery in India for reasons that range from long waiting lists, high costs or lack of insurance cover or lack of expertise .
The influx is the result of greater awareness of India's well-equipped private hospitals, experienced doctors who have been trained abroad, and unbelievably low prices.Accreditation with the Joint Commission International has helped hospitals build the credibility.
