India: Medical Tourism - Fortis Healthcare and Yash Birla pick up stakes

The week witnessed some investment activity as corporate players continued with plans to consolidate their pan India presence. Fortis Healthcare picked stake in a hospital in Bangalore. The Yash Birla group announced majority stake in Kerala Vaidyashala, India’s leading ayurveda healthcare set up. Sutter Health is expected to pick stake in Narayana Hrudalaya’s Jaipur health city project. The Common wealth Games are expected to boost healthcare tourism as well. Apollo hospitals is planning to set up chain of centres in PPP mode to develop trained manpower for healthcare sector. The India Health Card promoters are tying up with lead hospitals in India to make treatment in India affordable and convenient for NRIs and their families.
