Young Entrepreneurial Web 2.0 Venture

Yomacha

“Entrepreneurship is not an Idea, It’s a Dare and we have taken it. “
Usual Story: couple of friends sitting in a coffee shop and pondering aimlessly about future, about career. How to make money is always the big question. But how to make it on your own terms is an even bigger one. None wanted to get into today's society framed mundane life cycle where you finish MBA, get placed, start making decent amount of money, buy first expensive mobile, then a car, then get married and settle in a flat in some big city.. where the only thing governing your life is EMI's. These people dint want a job where only satisfaction at the end of the day is to go back home and flip channels on tv!

So everybody quit their secure jobs (even more problematic in a town like Jaipur, yeah this is not the usual Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore breed of Entrepreneurs)

Being internet freaks since adolescence, and driven by likes of Sergy brin and Mark Zukerberg to be any less ambitious, the idea of starting own portal was obvious.

Then there was no looking back. Along came www.yoMacha.com

Only a month old www.yomacha.com is already witnessing a steady growth in number of visitors with an average of 3000 page views, correctly. Basically two ideas merged together where 1. you get yourself rated 2. you can get anything else under the sun rated and voted on. “We don't claim it to be an original idea, but first ones to implement something like this for India. Just a regular social networking site was never a prerogative”.

Ajit Nawalkha (23) - the brain behind.. and now the COO for the company, had a roller coaster time getting an investors. Luckily the first ones approached were convinced. One of them being a Harvard Grad, running a successful e-commerce business of own.

As a concept, there has been a lot of criticism in context to Indian society and audience. Hard to get people to log on and post pictures etc, or why would people just be interested in getting rated or rating others. It’s not been an easy task, but slowly the base is building, from getting 0 to 25 pictures a day sometimes! Major chunk of users comes from between 18-28 years old, just looking forward to kill time on net in a fun way. Given that majority of people spend 4-9 hours on net these days for fun or work.

Strangely the promotion has just been limited to word of mouth and to some extent the social networking sites.

The company plans to take it a step ahead and is already in talks for tie-ups and partnership as means of cross media for events, promotion and launches.

“We realize it’s a tough road ahead, but its fun. At the end of day, we are not thinking about flipping channels but how to increase traffic! It’s a great feeling which comes with a start of a promising exciting journey.”
