India: Security concerns affect retailing in Mumbai: Mall Footfalls, Self-service Technologies, Vishal Retail, Future Group, Big Bazaar, Direct sellers, Mobile Retailers, Espirit Plans, Titan

Malls and stores were empty this weekend in Mumbai. Terror strikes have had an impact on the retailing activity in the city once too often it would seem. A separate report speaks of the largest number of online buyers coming from Mumbai. Organized retailers are looking at different means to deal with the economic downturn – expansion through franchising, introducing in-house brands and more. Interestingly, mobile retailers are recruiting; the slowdown has not affected demand for mobile services, they say.
