Legal Process Outsourcing Begins to Take Off

The already high costs and rising legal fees is paving the way for outsourcing in the legal industry. Legal fees apart, companies are more comfortable outsourcing now than ever before and there is also improved skills and capabilities in the marketplace which is giving an added impetus to this industry. Growth in the industry was delayed due to in-house reluctance to expose legal secrets and complex fee structures, but with increased capabilities in the marketplace, this is slowly changing due to improved processes and methodologies and the perceived economic benefits of outsourcing.

Traditionally, law firms were against outsourcing, due to various reasons like safeguarding their jobs, and to retain the mystique around the legal industry. They also wanted to retain the less complex but higher profits services provided by them in-house. But most law firms are understaffed and overloaded with work, thus resulting in long hours and unfinished work. And due to high associate attrition rates, the only option available to them is to outsource the less complex services.

Furthermore, clients of law firms, in a bid to cut legal costs are demanding the outsourcing of certain functions and this might in the end result in the faster growth of the industry. Read more...
