Comparison of Electricity Consumption in India and China
Electricity consumption per head in India is currently at around 450 kWh/year, (Western Europe 6000 kWh/year) with frequent brownouts in many areas. A government’s report recently estimated that the country needed an extra 115 500 MW in the next decade to meet the likely demand, requiring an investment of around $160bn.
China’s electric power industry has changed dramatically since the early 1990s to become the world’s second-largest electricity consumer, after the United States. China has abundant energy. The country has the world’s third-largest coal reserves and massive hydroelectric resources
