Treats from Nilgiri’s Bakery, “Masala Breads”Nilgiri’s at 80 feet road, Koramangala – a consumer report Nilgiri’s has opened a new store at Koramangala recently. I had been to their older stores in the same locality and had returned unimpressed. I recollect it having something to do with an altercation on not issuing carry-bags for my purchases. I also carried this distinct image of completely disinterested and even condescending sales staff. Needless to say, I went there just a couple of times. And I was not surprised to see the store being replaced by a Café Coffee Day outlet and a gift store eventually. But this report is not about that sad store – it’s about their new swank and happy store. It’s got the right ambience, loads of goodies – some spices and condiments that the other lot (Foodworld, Fabmall et al) do not carry, and their own bakery products in a range called “Masala Breads”. The bakery products are fresh and look appetising. I had wondered when I didn’t spot the ubiquitous Nilgiri’s loaf of bread at our in-house store (Vitan’s) or the other stores. I had pegged it down to Hindustan Lever’s strong arm tactics (Modern Bread adorns these shelves now), but it looks like it was Nilgiri’s ploy to get me go to their own store and get tempted by more than bread! The only negatives were that the store could do with some more space. Plus, the fresh produce section (fruits and vegetables) needs serious attention, it is not even a fraction of what Foodworld or Fabmall boasts of. Way to go, Nilgiri’s – nice store!
