Summary

Bangalore’s phenomenal growth over the last few years has seen a sharp rise in the cost of living there. The rapid rise of the IT and ITES industries coupled with the burgeoning affluent middle class have contributed to a surge in costs and prices.

Bangalore’s cosmopolitan nature coupled with the ever growing number of resident expats is reflected in the cost of living there. While Bangalore is an expensive place to live in, it is still less expensive than the country’s commercial capital, Mumbai.

While the costs of many items ranging from packaged foods to cars, books, electronic goods, gas etc. are almost the same all over India, other costs such as fresh fruits and vegetables, accommodation, entertainment, recreation schooling etc vary from city to city.

Bangalore is in most ways a world class city with international standard amenities. Infrastructure in terms of power and traffic congestion is, however a problem. Our presentation on The Cost of Living in Bangalore highlights some of these issues.

Bangalore has seen a sharp rise in the cost of living over the last few years.  While it may be one of the most expensive cities in India to live in, the cost of living there still compares favorably with similar sized cities in Europe or North America.
