India is the 7th largest coffee producer and exporter in the world. Annual production is approximately 275,000 metric tonnes. From this, about 75% is exported.

Coffee growing regions in India is grouped into:

• Traditional areas representing the southern states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
• Non-traditional areas comprising Andhra Pradesh & Orissa in the Eastern Ghats and in the seven states of North east India.
• More than 98% of the coffee produce comes from the traditional areas
• With an annual production of about 215,000 metric tonnes, Karnataka is by far the largest coffee producing state in India
